The Storey County Fire Protection District is a dedicated team of first responders committed to safeguarding the lives, property, and environment of our community. We provide emergency response, fire prevention, and community outreach services with professionalism, integrity, and a deep respect for the people we serve.
The Storey County Fire Protection District is proud to be the oldest fire service in the State of Nevada, with roots tracing back to 1861. Since those early days, our commitment to protecting life, property, and the community’s unique heritage has remained steadfast. Covering approximately 264 square miles, our district serves a diverse range of communities, including historic Virginia City, Gold Hill, Mark Twain, The Virginia City Highlands, Lockwood, and the rapidly expanding Tahoe Reno Industrial Center (TRIC). The dedicated team of SCFPD professionals provides critical emergency response, hazardous materials mitigation, technical rescue, fire suppression, advanced medical services, and community risk reduction programs.
Our district combines a legacy of tradition with forward-thinking strategies to meet the evolving needs of our community. Equipped with modern apparatus and specialized resources, including wildland firefighting and heavy equipment for wildfire protection, we respond rapidly and effectively to incidents both within Storey County and beyond. We emphasize readiness, continuous improvement, and collaboration with our community, working daily to honor our long-standing heritage while looking toward a safe and resilient future for Storey County.
At the Storey County Fire Protection District, we believe in being a dedicated community partner and setting the standard for excellence in emergency services. We are committed to upholding the highest level of service, rooted in integrity, professionalism, and a deep sense of responsibility to those we serve. Every call, every community outreach, and every training session is an opportunity to reinforce our commitment to safety and trust.
We believe in teamwork, accountability, and innovation, ensuring our team has the skills and resources needed to meet the diverse needs of our communities. Our focus extends far beyond emergency response. We are active members of the community, engaging in initiatives that promote safety, resilience, and preparedness for all.
